Minerals Prices in Pakistan

Pakistan has official religion of Islam and is the second-largest Muslim country in the ‎world. Scientists have identified over 4000 minerals of the earth's crust. Pakistan, a member of the World Trade Organization since 1994, has substantially reduced tariffs on imported goods since 1998. Substances that are formed based on natural processes are called minerals. Road transport is the backbone of Pakistan's transport system. Minerals can be identified by their physical properties, such as hardness, color, appearance (luster) and odor

Pakistan is endowed with huge reserves of minerals covering an outcrop area of 600 000 km2 due to its unique geological condition. Fortunately, Pakistan have been blessed with all type of rock from pre-Cambrian to recent with exceptional geological and features. There are 92 known minerals of which 52 are commercially exploited, it includes coal, copper, gold, chromite, mineral salt and several other minerals. Recent Economic Survey of Pakistan indicated that overall contribution of mineral sector in GDP growth of Pakistan is about 2. metallic minerals resource of Pakistan (Source: Geological Survey of Pakistan and Ministry of Petroleum). In contrast as per Economic Survey of Pakistan, the Mining and Quarrying sector of Pakistan showing negative growth rate by 8. 51% in GDP growth of Pakistan (Figure 3). Mineral extraction of Pakistan is just 0. Representing approximately non-metallic minerals resource of Pakistan (Source: Geological Survey of Pakistan and Ministry of Petroleum). Mineral export of Pakistan is quite nominal if we compare it by neighbouring countries, even mineral resource of Pakistan is similar or somewhere greater by these countries but unfortunately due to lack of planning and execution it is far behind in mineral extraction and their export (Figure 4). In 2019 total mineral export of Pakistan was just BUS$1. 13 in contrast total mineral import of Pakistan of BUS$5. It is clearly visible that the difference between mineral import and export of Pakistan since last 10 - 11 years is quite high which can be easily reduced by better planning and development of mineral mining sector (Figure 5). Despite of having huge reserves of high demand and marketable minerals, Pakistan Mineral Industry is still lagging far behind as compared to the global mineral market. Due to mentioned gaps, mineral sector shows negligible growth and almost have no contribution in growth of Pakistan and Global Market as well. To strengthen mineral mining sector and increase its contribution in the economic balance of Pakistan, high level national focus is required to inculcate conducive environment for new mining companies. Concurrently financial encouragement and utilisation of state-owned research agencies such as Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP), Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) and other Universities is of immense importance ensuring full potential of mineral resource is exported as marketable product globally. Representing import vs export of mineral and related products by Pakistan from 2009-2019 (Source: Trade Statistics for International Business Development). For countries like Pakistan who are facing fairly large gap between supply and demand, we need to spend more time and efforts for the exploration and development of prospects especially in Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, need to developed comprehensive policies for mineral exploration and their development considering the law and order situation of these regions have been significantly improved in last few years. Pakistan mineral sector have a potential to boost up the economy of Pakistan, state initiatives like establishment of Baluchistan Mineral Exploration company is a great step in this development ladder and an encouraging sign for global mining players to invest in Mineral sector of Pakistan.

PAKISTAN is estimated to have around 297bn tonnes of marble and granite reserves, mainly in the remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fata, Balochistan and rural Sindh. Pakistani dimension stones have immense decorative and functional value and exotic appearances. Pakistan is the 6th largest mineral extractor of marble and granite in the world. China accounts for 60pc of Pakistan’s total marble exports. China and Italy purchase raw products like slabs and blocks and re-export value-added items like mosaic work, inlay designs and tiles around the world, including to Pakistan. For instance, Pakistan has granite reserves of over 2bn tonnes; however, average annual production is limited to 6,000 tonnes only. • Adopt mining technologies, as the current blasting practices in Pakistan cause a huge loss of precious stone. • Market reports indicate that Saudi Arabia is interested in Pakistani marble to build its new cities with an expenditure of around $260bn. And Italy and some other European countries want to sell their marble machinery and technology in exchange for Pakistani marble. According to the Pakistan Stone Development Company, exports of dimension stones could touch $2.

In Pakistan, coal currently makes up merely one per cent of the electric power generation. The coal-field extends over 9,000 sq km area out of which 356 sq km area has been studied in detail by the Geological Survey of Pakistan proving nine billion tonnes coal in four blocks. LAKHRA: The Lakhra coal-field in Dadu District, lies 16 km to the west of Khanot railway station on the Kotri-Dadu section of the Pakistan Railways. Lignite, the indigenous coal mostly found in Pakistan is a comparatively young coal geologically speaking and has the lowest carbon content of just 25-35 per cent and also the lowest heat value of only 6,000-10,000 BTUs per pound. islamabad - The occurrence of Gold in Pakistan is well known but Diamond has not been found here. In Pakistan, Gold is found associated with Copper deposits of Balochistan and Waziristan. Riko Diq Copper deposits are well known which contain small amounts of Gold, Silver and other useful minerals. However, ores containing commercial Gold have so far eluded us despite the presence of pieces of Gold found in beds in bends of streams coming out of Glaciers in northern areas of Pakistan and Gold particles and small pieces which are being panned from a river near Gilgit and other places. Pakistan has widespread Precambrian basement rocks as outcrops as well as buried under Alluvium and thin sediments over a large area. These basement rocks contain useful minerals and could also as is the case in other countries like Egypt. Possibilities of Diamond occurrence also exists in the south-eastern part of Pakistan. As a consequence, drainage was created towards Pakistan. Some of this lost drainage may have transported some Diamonds towards Pakistan side removed from the Deccan Plateau. Another interesting mineral that is found in the northern areas of Pakistan is known as pyrite. NIPCO House, 4 - Shaharah e Fatima Pakistan Tel: +92 42 36367580    |     Fax : +92 42 36367005.
